I have seen people preparing only in Dec and January and getting under Top 500 and Top 200. There are two cases under which you may fall if you are talking about preparing in Just 75 days.
Case 1 - You are a repeater.
Case 2 - You are preparing for the first time.
Under case 1 also we have two category:
- Prepared Hard in first attempt
- Didn’t take preparation seriously
Any student who have already prepared and prepared seriously in previous attempt and now starting preparation just 75 days before have good chances of scoring under Top 100.
Approach: Student who fall under this category should divide his/her preparation in 88–20. 80% of the time for practice and 20% of the time for theory (Complex Topics only). You have 75 days, just divide them into two parts- 60 days for Practicing Previous Year Questions and Mock Tests and 15 Days for Complex topics which actually contributes in deciding your rank.
Most of the people make same simple mistake every time, they again starts studying whole syllabus and waste most of the time in theory. You have already studies whole syllabus in first attempt just revise it quickly, do not again start from zero.
Any Student who already prepared and didn’t prepare seriously in previous attempts also have good chances of getting into Top 500.
Approach: First thing you should do is - you should unlearn the wrong concepts which you stuffed into your mind. Get your concepts right quickly through the previous year questions. You can’t afford to study whole syllabus again because you have only 75 days. Second thing you should do is just start solving previous year questions by looking at the solutions of those questions. Initially just look at how a particular question is solved and what concept is applied to solve that particular question- do this only for 5 previous GATE papers. After this start solving GATE questions and if you are not able to solve a particular question then study that concept completely and then come back to that question again. That’s how you will cover whole syllabus and important topics by practicing the PYQs. Solve previous GATE 10 year papers like this twice (most important).
Any Student who is preparing for the first time also have good chances of scoring under top 200. Many of my friends from Non-CS background prepared in just 120 days for GATE CS and got into IITs in CS branch. And if you are a student giving GATE in your branch then obviously you also have good chances.
Approach: There are some high scoring subjects in every GATE Stream which covers at least 70–80 marks out of 100. For example: Aptitude (15 Marks), Math’s (20 Marks), TOC (12 Marks), C+DS+ALgo (20 Marks) and DBMS +OS (20 marks) = 80–85 marks (In Computer Science).
Like this you can make combination of highest scoring subjects in any stream, and these subjects takes only 60 days to prepare. You still have 15 days, just solve 2 papers in a day and in 10 days you will be able to solve 20 papers (10 years paper twice). In last 5 days just revise all subjects and solutions of previous year papers. This will require lots of planning, patience and sitting power but still it is possible to get into TOP 200 and 100 in just 75 days preparation.
